Default Tell Us: Showdown with Mother Nature

We’re looking for die-hard outdoor adventurers to tell us the best destinations for boating, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding — whatever, so long as it requires a showdown with Mother Nature.

If you’re the sort who digs the sight of dirt beneath your fingernails, join tell us about it right here. Spout off about the coolest spots you’ve been to recently. What’d you do while you were there? How far is it from base and why is this spot worthy of your recommendation? Spare no details.

Does this wicked cool place have a Web site? Got some photos from your last trip? Sweet. Upload those, too.

Your story may be featured in a future issue of Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times or Marine Corps Times.

My favorite place to visit is the Olympic National Forest in Washington State. It has the mountains, forests and trails to hike, and the ocean within a 30-45 minute drive. Within the national Forest is the Qualinalt Lodge which was visited by Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s. Highway 101 is dead center of the Olympic National Forest. North of this is Soul Duck Hot Springs and Port Angeles which is directly across the Straights of Juan de Fuca from Victoria, British Columbia

Within that 30-45 minute drive west of the Olympic National Forest is is the Pacific Beach Resort and Conference Center at Pacific Beach, Washington. The resort was once the Naval Radio Facility, Pac Beach until the late 70s early 80s.

Winter within the forest is beautiful,. There are millions of trees making the drive spitacular(spelling). You'll find waterfalls while hiking.

Onlsow Beach on Camp Lejeune NC. One of the best surf fishing spots on the east coast. All you need is a registered 4x4 vehicle, a sunny day when theres no training going on, a fishing pole and some bait, and you are all set. I firmly believe this is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been to. No houses, just as mother nature and USMC have left it.

Boundry Water Canoe Area, if you like solitude and a chance to tangle with monster pike, muskey, walleye, and bass, this is the spot. Planning is required as well as permits to enter.

Lake Tahoe is the ultimate adventure destination.

The Tahoe Rim Trail is a 165 mile hike around the mountaintops and meadows that surround Lake Tahoe. I plan on joining the 165 mile club this fall with a 10 day trip.

Mountain Biking the Flume Trail is an epic must-ride with some of the most scenic vistas you will ever see. Be sure to bring plenty of water, and watch the elevation if you're a flat lander.

The Snow Skiing is the best in the West. With the season starting in November and running through April/May depending on the snowfall for the year, plenty of skiing for all abilities.

Rock Climbing in and around the Tahoe Basin is a great time when Yosemite is too crowded.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Rubicon Trail offers all that you could ever want and more.

Ziprider at Heavenly valley Ski Rresort offers the the longest zip line in the continental United States at 3300 feet long and top speeds of 50 miles an hour. Sure to get your heart racing.

Other activities available in Lake Tahoe Basin - Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, road cycling, sailing and water skiing.

Being only an hour away from Naval Air Station, Fallon, Lake Tahoe has everything that an outdoor enthusiast loves.

The Caribbean National Rainforest in Puerto Rico has to be the greatest adventure spot I've ever been to. In the rainforest you have a range of things to do from hiking along trails, climbing up the lush mountainous terrain, and if you want to get even more adventurous you can even go off into the forest and hike your own trail.

The park has spectacular views and great waterfalls to climb and you can even swim in the pools at the base of them. I'f you like getting your feet wet then you can even hike along the rivers in there.

This is definitely a place where you'ld want to visit in Puerto Rico. If you like getting dirty while having fun at the same time, the Caribbean National Rainforest guarantees great adventures for you and your friends.
