EDINBURGH, Ind. — Vice President-elect Mike Pence has recalled his late father's modesty about his Korean War service during a Veterans Day speech in Indiana that included only brief mentions of Donald Trump's victory as president.

During remarks at the Indiana National Guard's Camp Atterbury, Pence didn't speak Friday about his new role as leader of Trump's transition team. Reporters were kept at a distance.

The Indiana governor told about 200 people that he and others who didn't serve in the military should be especially grateful to those like his father and his son, who became a Marine Corps officer last year.
