1863: While Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker--injured by a near miss at Chancellorsville--remained on the defensive, Lt. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson lead his reinforced Second Corps on an end run and assailed the Army of the Potomac's right flank. Before he could complete his operation, however, Stonewall was shot by jumpy North Carolinian troops while scouting between the lines at night, which resulted in serious wounds that put him out of the fight. The outcome of Chancellorsville will have to wait at least one more day. Interested in learning more about the Battle of Chancellorsville? Visit HistoryNet.com for a few facts.
