Shot 09 – Lightweight big battery
January 17th, 2009 | Product Announcement | Posted by Sheila
Those big BA-5590 batteries have been around forever. Ever have to lug a few of them around for a mission? Blackheart International has a lighter option for you – the BA-8180/U non-rechargeable Zinc-Air battery.
Blackheart claims the 8180, at six pounds, has the same hang time as five 5590s. And the 8180 takes up far less space than five 5590s.
Zinc-air batteries have been around for a while in hearing aids and a few vehicles, and the military is not a stranger to them. With the correct adapters they will power ASIPs, SATCOM/HFEI, even your old SINGCARS.
When you are out on a mission with 40+ pounds of gear hanging off of you, it might be nice to have little less weight and lot more power.

February 3rd, 2009 at 01:17Hey all,
My name is Ken and I was at the SHOT Show when the Army Times reporter stopped by our booth. I’d like to add to what the author has already stated about our zinc air battery line.
The bottom-line up front is our Zinc air batteries are smaller, and lighter batteries than the 5590’s everyone is carrying around to power their Harris and MBITR radio’s. Our zinc air battery has ZERO Hazmat in it. Now that may not be a big deal to the operator, but to any SIG-O’s and NCO’s out their – that’s music to their ears. No stickers, wasted man-hours spent preparing to ship the batteries and then dealing with the loadmaster, etc. Oh ya, did I mention you can shoot our battery and they keep giving off a charge? Try that with your MBITR, Harris or 5590 Battery!
If you are interested, I can send you all the SPECS. Just shoot me out an email at ken@bhigear.com. You can also find the batteries on our website at http://www.bhigear.com/zinc-air-batteries.aspx .
These have been made with CECOMs input, they have NSN numbers and are ready to enter the “sandbox” right now. Don’t let battery power be a limiting factor on your operations. One 8140 will take you outside the wire for 7 days. Why use anything else?
Of course if you have custom applications or special projects we are ready to assist you as well, just shoot me an email.
Thanks for your time -
