Troy Industries has come up with a new concept in grips for the AR15/M16 family of weapons, the Troy Battle Ax CQB Grip. While most others seem to be concentrating on larger grips, Troy went the opposite direction. While talking at SHOT, Steve Troy said the idea behind the smaller grip was to create a method of enabling a higher hand hold and getting the trigger finger better positioned. This polymer grip is textured and fits the M4/AR15/M16 and FN SCAR weapon platforms. The price on the grip is $19.95.

While at SHOT Show we stopped off and checked out a new product from RATGRIPS.COM. The idea behind the product looked pretty straightforward to us. A flexible, heat-molded material that you can form to any surface and that gives added bulk and texture where needed. Sounded good, but we were a little skeptical on how well it would actually stick to an item.
The RAT Crew was nice enough to give us a demonstration, and it’s a pretty simple deal. Cut it to shape, heat the material, form it to your surface with wet hands, let it cool. The material sticks and holds its shape nicely. While the RAT Crew was showing this on pistols, they also had it on a machete, which got me to thinking about a Hawk that tends to go most places with me.
I smell an upcoming review for the RAT Grip, and I think it’s going to be fun. Check out the company’s Web site for more info, and look for our upcoming review.
Vltor Weapon Systems has released a new stock, and it’s currently getting its NSN assigned. TheVltor iMod is a replacement for the Vltor Modstock which is already in the system with its own NSN. New features include a heavily rubber stock pad, and a redesigned angle to the stock. The iMod continues battery storage compartments and multiple sling points.
We’ll be doing a review on this stock once we get some trigger time, and throw it out to some other guys in uniform to beat on.

Inc. is now manufacturing a one piece scope base mount. In talking to Brian of A.R.M.S. Inc., this was designed for the low power variable scopes, but will work well for any design that is looking for a one piece mount with increased eye relief.
Read MoreMagpul has announced that it is making HK 36 magazines in both 30- and 20-round models. The 30-round model contains the window and maglevel feature that shows how many rounds are remaining in the magazine. At the time of these photos, the available magazines were prototypes. The final versions will have a different texture, and the 30-round version will have a clear window installed.
Read MoreTroy Industries snuck a new polymer magazine onto the market, and Steve Troy spent a good amount of time going over it with us. High-impact polymer 30-round magazines are out, and an upcoming 20-round mag can be looked for as well. Anti-tilt follower, directional textured sides for easy insertion and removal in pouches while retaining a non-slip grip for users, and it comes with a pull tab. Steve stated this magazine is ready for use with all M4, HK416, and FN SCAR style weapons. Currently in production, these are available in Green, Flat Dark Earth, and Black.
Look forward to an upcoming review on these, I’m ready to beat the hell out of them to see what they can take. Steve doesn’t seem too worried about it, and maybe his confidence is a sign of how these are going to do. We’ll see as soon as we get our hands on them.

Last year Magpul released their carbine MOE handguards, this year bring a change to the carbine model so it will fit with piston systems, as well as the all new mid-length and rifle length models.
Read MoreAmerican Rifle may be a new company, but no doubt we will be seeing a lot more of them in the near future. Company president Theodore Karagias met with us last week and unveiled a new mounting system for optics. Coming from an engineering and aerospace background, Mr. Karagias takes the accepted design for optic mounts and throws them out the window. The wrapping style of his mount is more than simple aesthetics, it is less on optic longevity and truing up the mount. Take a look at the Web site for the technical information on these mounts, and know that we’ll be looking these hard getting ready for an upcoming review. I’ve already got one of my Aimpoints riding in this mount, and once the larger mounts are out, I’ll be dropping in my IOR Valda into the mix as well.

Recently we talked with Gear Sector owner, Jason Trusty, and found out that he was releasing a new line of sling mounts, hand stops, and flashlight mounts. While aluminum is quite a bit different than webbing, Mr Trusty is someone I’ve spoken to for a few years, and he is obsessive when it comes to the quality and design of his products.
