Shot 09- OR Airpurge Dry Sacks Keep You From Cubing Out
January 19th, 2009 | Product Announcement | Posted by Rob Curtis
The Airpurge Dry Compression Sack from Outdoor Research is a valveless dry bag that will keep your clothes dry and organized inside your ruck. At the bottom of the bag is a strip of one-way air purging fabric. The strip lets you crush the bag down so tightly that it forms a near vacuum and squeezes every last cubic nanometer of efficiency out of your pack.
The sacks will come in 4 sizes and two versions. The Coyote version is made in the USA for military customers. The imported versions will come in black and dark grey. Both versions will come in 10L, 15L, 25L and 30L sizes. Look for them in fall 2009. No word on price, yet.

January 14th, 2009 | Product Announcement | Posted by Matthew Cox
It’s always been a unique design — now Light My Fire has upgraded its spork to last forever. Starting next month, the popular three-in-one spork will be available in titanium in addition to the polycarbonate original.
“It’s a forever product,” said Matt Dekker, sales manager for Industrial Revolution Inc., the U.S. distributor for Light My Fire. “It does have that bullet-proof nature that the plastic spork doesn’t have.”
TASER + AAFES = Pain + (MWR x Pleasure)
January 13th, 2009 | Off-Duty | Posted by Rob Curtis
Even as you go to the ground after offering a TASER-wielding-geo-bachelorette some help getting groceries into her SUV, it may warm your fibrillating heart to know that TASER is donating a portion of its AAFES sales back to the MWR fund.
The next time you’re cruising the AAFES Web Mall or Web Exchange, you may be shocked to find the only things between you and two discounted TASER models is a credit card and a mouse click.
You can use their “ChecLok” system to activate your trusty new TASER C2 while your unsuspecting roommates sleep. Once you pass their online background check, they issue a unique activation code that (their words, not ours) “adds to the accountability of the end user.” I smell mayhem.
On the other hand, if you would like to be unaccountable, just order the TASER X26C. That one appears to arrive ready for bro-taming action.
Salomon’s Quest Hiking Boots Coming in Cool or Fugly
January 10th, 2009 | Photo Recon Product Announcement | Posted by Rob Curtis
Here are Salomon’s new Quest 4D hiking boots. Salomon based the design on their best selling running shoe, the XA Pro 3D. The family resemblance is unmistakable when I picked the boot up and realized it weighed about as much as a sneaker. Operators will appreciate the usual Gore-Tex lining when combined with a new shaped last that extends up around the foot for support and protection from rocky outcroppings found high up in the Afghan landscape.
The Quest boot comes in 2 colors, gray and orange. Yep, orange. They are a European company, after all. It didn’t take long for the international SOF outfitter RPT Tactical in Virgina Beach to see the operator appeal. They shrewdly bought every single one of the non-ugly boots and should have them in stock in March below the $220 MSRP. A few more details and a full GearScout photo recon after the break.
