When a friend asked if I had an interest in one of the Echo Niner Camera Straps, I was all over it. The Echo Niner strap is to a camera what a sling is to a weapon, its an important piece that does more than just support gear, it makes the gear easier to work with. If you think your Sgt. is disgusted if your M4 hits the deck, think about how worked up someone will get when their $2k camera slams to the deck. A lot of people reading this may be using a basic point and shoot camera, and this sling isn’t for them. For the guys/ gals using a DSLR, this strap makes perfect sense, especially if they are also firearm shooters.

The Echo Niner strap is made of 1.25″ nylon webbing and uses a rubberized coating to prevent the sling from slipping around. The strap adjusts like a weapon sling, and can be tightened or loosened with a quick pull, which is nice for those times you need to use both hands and don’t need your camera flopping around hitting things. MilSpec 550 cord is used to secure the sling to the camera body through the usual fastening points, which also allows you to swap the sling back and forth between camera bodies, though at the price of $32 for tan and black ($35 for Sexycam/Multicam) it may be worth it just to pick up one for each camera body you are using. The Echo Niner camera strap might not have layers of padding, but for most cameras it is going to work quite well. In fact, its new home is on my Canon 7D, where you can see it below.

Just this morning, the Marine Corps issued an RFI for the Corpsman Assault Pack (CAP). The CAP was referenced with a placeholder in the Marine Corps Pack System (previously known as FILBE) contract and the pack is a USMC owned design.  So, they are putting this out to see who wants to sew it for them, not to solicit ideas on its design.

The Corps is looking for 10,000 packs, total, each one consisting of the Corpsman Assault Pack, 18 medical inserts, a sustainment bag, trauma pouch, and thigh rig.

Fayobserver.com is reporting Tim D’Annunzio, the founder of Paraclete Armor and Equipment, has started a new tactical equipment venture called XPX Armor & Equipment.

D’Annunzio cashed out about five years ago when he sold Paraclete to MSA. He signed a 5-year non-compete contract, as is pretty normal. So, he had some time to kill and money to spend from the sale of Paraclete. He opened an indoor sky diving business and ran unsuccessfully for Congress.

He told the Fayettville Observer, “When I sold the company, I had no plans really to get back in the business.”

But, with doors open for less than a month, he appears to be making up for lost time as D’Annunzio says the company already has $1 million in contracts.

I guess Ares called it the RAD because RDPC doesn’t sound as rad. Well, there’s plenty of cool in the RAD (Rapid Armor Deployment) pack. It’s a plate carrier disguised as a bookbag/backpack. It looks like it might fit someone’s mission profile out there. Heck, if your local public school has metal detectors, get one for the kids. In the video, watch Dimitri, from Ares, deploy the system with hard plates installed. He isn’t messing with the waist straps just to illustrate how quickly the system can be deployed in extremis. I guess you’d snap the front panel to the rear after a break in the initial contact.

From the Ares site: The Rapid Armor Deployment Pack is intended to allow one to become a true Sheepdog. You can go from being an average unnoticed citizen and in under 2 seconds deploy a full armor system with a weapon giving you an unexpected advantage over would be shooters or assailants. The Ares Armor RAD Pack features: Molle on the front plate pocket to allow for customized setups Able to accept Front and back armor plates. (not included) Easy lock down system to secure front plate to you should you need to shoot and move. The ability to blend into society. There is no Molle or other military style construction on the externals of the RAD Pack. A back pocket that is fully functional as a normal pack for storage of items away from the weapon. Comes with universal pistol holster

Patents Pending Ares Armor R.A.D. (Rapid Armor Deployment) Pack is the next level of concealed weapon carry. Pre-Order Item. Shipping Late February We will not be displaying detailed images of this pack to protect the customers of this item.  For a limited time it’s $229.95
