Smith and Wesson has been teasing us for the past week or so about their new “Shield.” The new pistol is to be announced this week, and speculation points to a sub-compact, single-stack, polymer 9mm. Jerking the Trigger just posted what they think is a leaked image of the new pistol.

Lipsey’s Guns just announced they are the exclusive distributors of new flat dark earth Glocks. They are shipping 9 models now including G17, Gen3 and Gen4, G19 Gen3 and Gen4, 21 Gen4, G22 Gen3 and Gen4 and the G23 Gen3 and Gen4. Eight of the models will come with coolor matched FDE accessory backstraps. The G21 backstraps are (inexplicably) black.
Lipsey’s tells me their pricing is staying the same, though what dealers do is up to market forces. They said they approached Glock and ordered between 6000-8000 of each of the nine models. That’s a lot of pistols and should earn them a good while on whatever exclusivity agreement they worked out with Glock.

It took a little longer to close the previously reported deal, but I received word this morning that Para USA is now under the wings of Freedom Group, Inc. This rounds out FGI’s portfolio by adding the groups only pistol manufacturer.
In a release issued today, FGI gives up little but the basics. No word about the terms or cost of the acquisition. This

Aside from throwing Kimber under the bus, these guys have probably managed to red flag their whole agency firearms procurement program for fulfilling their high-end gun fetishes.

The Daily News is reporting that NYPD just banned the use of Kahr K-9 pistols due to a series of negligent discharges over the last few years. The article says NYPD had asked Kahr 5 years ago to up the trigger pull from 7.5 to 13 pounds so the officers “realize the serious nature of opening fire.” For their part, Kahr tried to get to a 13 pound trigger but couldn’t do it. So, the pistols with the 7.5lb trigger stayed in use.
Why not just go to level 4 (duct tape) or level 5 (rope) retention holsters? Untying knots and peeling tape will give them plenty of time to contemplate their actions and won’t mess with the fire controls.

Any guesses who it is?

Mar 13, 2011 @ 23:06 I’m reading some informal reports from IWA that the Swiss have chosen to outfit their Army with 9mm Glock 17 (full size) and Glock 19 Glock 26 (compact) pistols. IWA is an international trade show for the hunting, sporting and military arms industry held annually in Nuremberg, Germany. It’s the European equivalent of America’s SHOT show.
May 3, 2011 @ 10:40 Glock got back to me with a statement explaining the selection was for the Swiss Army Special Forces. They’ll be replacing their Sig 220 and Sig Pro pistols with Glock 17 and 26, both Gen4, beginning in 2012. (We mistakenly reported initially that they chose the Glock 19 as their compact pistol.) Swiss Army Recon (AAD 10) and Military Security Agency (MilSich) evaluated the pistols along with the Swiss national evaluation and procurement agency (armasuisse).
Hit the jump for Glock’s statement, released via email today:

At AUSA, we tried to get a little news from Glock about their 4th generation pistol. The reps were all tight-lipped about the new features we might see when they unveil it at Shot in January. But, Richard over at gunsholstersandgear.com has pieced together a pretty good picture of what we can expect the Austrians might be doing to compete with Sig-Sauer, Smith & Wesson and Springfield. Richard based his findings on a combination of privileged sources, public documents and educated guesses.
Don’t get sucked to deep into the madness, though. Photos of a Gen3 RTF Glock (right) are getting posted on forums and blogs that are mistakenly labeling it the Gen4 pistol.
Gen 4 Glock: A Look at the New Features.
Read MoreThis could be handy – an accessory that turns your pistol into a shoulder-fired CQB weapon. Command Arms Accessories is planning on selling a lightweight, polymer pistol stock system, designed by former Israeli Defense Force members.
The early prototype resembles the upper and lower receiver of a submachine gun. A semiautomatic pistol, represented by the blue Glock in the photo, locks into the bottom and forms the only firing part of the weapon. It will have a collapsible stock and rails for mounting optics and other accessories.
The idea is special operators can add more stability and accuracy to their side-arms in a CQB situation, Michael Grandy of CAA said. The final design should be ready in about six months and work with most major auto pistols. No price yet.
Read MoreThe Army just signed a deal for 55,890 Sig Sauer 9mm pistols, but soldiers shouldn’t plan on turning in their old M9 anytime soon. Nope; the $26 million contract awarded April 23 will outfit the Colombian National Police with the Sig SP2022, a lightweight polymer framed pistol that features both double and single action operation.
Army Material Command secured the multi-year contract with Sig Sauer Inc., for the Colombian government after it was approved by the U.S. State Department. The deal has a potential value of $306 million.
