Rainier Arms has their new Xtreme Tactical Compensator (XTC) that’s hitting shelves as we speak. I first spoke with John Hwang, owner of Rainier Arms, over a year and a half ago while they were in the research and development stages, and I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with these as they have gone through a few minor changes. Click the below image to find out why this thing works so well, and what it’s good for.

The HammerHead Rifle Tool is designed for removal and installation of the castle nut,  A1 and A2 receiver extensions (buffer tube), as well as  most flash suppressor and compensators.  The tool also has a cutout for a 3/8″ socket for proper torque if so desired.  The end of the HammerHead Rifle Tool is pointed for pushing free tight or stuck receiver take down pins.  Its a well built tool with usable features.

Vltor Weapon Systems has released a new stock, and it’s currently getting its NSN assigned. TheVltor iMod is a replacement for the Vltor Modstock which is already in the system with its own NSN. New features include a heavily rubber stock pad, and a redesigned angle to the stock. The iMod continues battery storage compartments and multiple sling points.

We’ll be doing a review on this stock once we get some trigger time, and throw it out to some other guys in uniform to beat on.

Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) has a new AR15/M16/M4 cam pin that’s out on the market. For anyone who has ever fired a newly issued weapon or had a chance to observe the wear on the M16 cam pin, it is substantial and it’s an obvious lube point. We spoke to Frank Desoma, who let us know that this has been designed to reduce friction and drag on the bolt carrier as the cam pin is able to spin while the action moves. The piece is NP3 coated, which negates the need for lubricant.

The conversion is available in two styles. The first is part # RCPK223 and is designed for the direct impingement/gas system, and it comes with a gas carrier key, two screws and the roller cam pin — this is because the carrier key needs to be loosened or removed so the new cam pin can be dropped in. You will notice from the picture below that it has a rounded head instead of the traditional rectangular cam pin that we are used to in service weapons.  For weapons that are using a piston system, you can purchase part # RCPA223, which is the just the roller cam itself.

I met Oliver from Iron Ridge Arms a few years ago and ran into him again at SHOT this year. He is dedicated to the idea of creating the most accurate magazine fed .308 battle rifle. He pointed out changes that he made from earlier receivers based on harmonics.  Oliver also commented that he was now making his own barrel extensions because he couldn’t find ones that were good enough, and he had dialed in the available ones as a weak link.

We spoke a bit, and Oliver is gearing up to take on the big boys in the industry. With a reliable weapon that is highly accurate, his obsession to detail may be rocking the boat for a few other manufacturers in the near future. Check out his Web site for videos and more information.

Magpul’s Angled Fore Grip (AFG) has been on the market for a while, and we had a chance to try it out over a few days of shooting.  The Magpul AFG is one of the first of the products that Magpul calls “theory based.”  We’ve used VFGs in various sizes, shapes and lengths, as well as some of the newest handstops on the market, but the AFG is a very different beast. Does it work? Yes, though it takes a little getting used to. We found that some shooters were so locked into grabbing the magazine well, or using their issued VFG, that the AFG was something they had no interest in. The guys who have tried it generally like it. Magpul has gone outside the proverbial box with this design, and it makes us wonder what else it has up its sleeve.

We’ve spent a few months getting a good grip on Troy Industries Modular Combat Grip (MCG) for this review. Training and patrolling with the three part, aluminum vertical fore grip (VFG) gave us plenty of time to cover all the twists this burly little guy has to offer.

Sure, there’s a few shoot-through dry bags out there. But few are as light as either of Nemo’s two new bags, the FAS MP7 and FAS M4. The bags are semi-disposable (its made to be shot though, after all) and are made from a light, tough, latexish material that is flexible enough to let you grab and shoot your weapon while protecting it from seawater and sand. The drybag style closure rolls up and keeps the crap away from your primary.

The are a few cool touches, like the heat resistant panels around the suppressor and ejector port. It even sports a clear window so your IR designator/laser will work right through the bag. The included Hypalon strap wraps around the weapon’s stock and barrel for a secure carry and adds hardly anything to the total 8-10 oz. package weight.  Packed up, the bags are about the size of a freezer bag. $99 for the M4 and $89 for the MP7.

Aimpoint CompM4sAimpoint wants everyone to know about the July 2009 US Army contract award for  565,783 M68 Close Combat Optics. The contract is for $171 million worth of Aimpoint CompM4s sights. End-to-end, that’s 21.5 miles of sights. So, if they could float, you could form a chain of CompM4s’ from France to England.

The 2 minute-of-angle, unmagnified, red-dot sight runs for up to 8 years on a AA battery and has 7 night vision compatible settings and 9 daylight settings. This award will push the number of Aimpoints in use by the US military to more than 1.25 million.
