Members of Congress congratulate Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci after a news conference in the U.S. Capitol to discuss the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion that Kosovo’s “unilateral secession from Serbia in 2008 did not violate international law.” This ruling, although non-binding, basically confirms the country’s independence with the most of the world. Critics of the ruling say it will encourage other separatist regions in the world to break away.
Thaçi joined the rebel Kosovo Liberation Army in the early 90′s, and quickly rose in rank – earning the nickname, “Gjarpëri,” The Snake; Thaci was particularly known for his focus on fund-raising and securing armaments.
Don’t Rain on My Parade

Every Tuesday throughout the summer, Marine Barracks Washington conducts a sunset parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. The parade on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 started as normal, but drizzle began to fall as members of the Commandant’s marched across the field playing a medley from the musical “Hair.” Umbrellas were passed out, and as the musicians sang the chorus from “Let the Sun Shine In,” the skies opened up. The Silent Drill Team managed to make it through their portion of the parade, but officials decided to call the event shortly after colors passed the reviewing party.

If there is any way of making some of the most powerful men in the military look like a bunch of first-graders getting ready for a class portrait…I think I may have accidentally done it. Chief of Staff of the Army General George W. Casey, Chief of Staff of the Air Force General Norton Schwartz, Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Robert Papp, Jr., and Chief of the Navy Reserve Admiral Dirk Debbink during the 10th Annual Military Times Service Member of the Year awards at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. It is either a really good thing or a really bad thing that I didn’t get Marine Corps Director of the Reserve Affairs Division Major General Darrell Moore in the photo.

Carly M745, a security forces K-9 with the 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces Group is sedated to have blood drawn on July 3, during a canine blood drive at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. Just like humans, this life saving contribution can be used for another K-9 of the same blood type when needed. Military working dogs at JBB have their blood tested prior to being used as a donor for blood typing and to ensure they are ideal donors. A Special Operations Task Force Marine launches a raven into the night’s sky for an aerial view of the area which they would be staying at over night to interrupt any Anti-Afghan forces activity on the road between Pasaw and Ranje Bala villages, Bala Baluk district, Farah province, Afghanistan April 12. The Afghan National Army and SOTF Marines chose to stay close to where a roadside bomb killed five including a woman and two young children and injured two men. ANA Soldiers and SOTF Marines were conducting a recon patrol through the area when a pressure plate roadside bomb was run over. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sergeant Nicholas Pilch)
