Frederick Wood, a Naval Security Force security officer at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, leaves behind a security badge as part of the mass reenlistment ceremony at Mount Suribachi. Mementos are often left by visitors to the island in honor of those who lost their lives. Every Tuesday throughout the summer, Marine Barracks Washington conducts a sunset parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. The parade on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 started as normal, but drizzle began to fall as members of the Commandant’s marched across the field playing a medley from the musical “Hair.” Umbrellas were passed out, and as the musicians sang the chorus from “Let the Sun Shine In,” the skies opened up. The Silent Drill Team managed to make it through their portion of the parade, but officials decided to call the event shortly after colors passed the reviewing party.
