IC3 Vijay Kataria takes a face full of wind as the USS Enterprise, CVN 65, heads toward Norfolk as she returns from a six-week cruise on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Enterprise is the fastest carrier in the Navy, so it can get pretty windy outside on the o-11 level when the crew is looking forward to returning home. (Sheila Vemmer/staff)

Every Tuesday throughout the summer, Marine Barracks Washington conducts a sunset parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. The parade on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 started as normal, but drizzle began to fall as members of the Commandant’s marched across the field playing a medley from the musical “Hair.” Umbrellas were passed out, and as the musicians sang the chorus from “Let the Sun Shine In,” the skies opened up. The Silent Drill Team managed to make it through their portion of the parade, but officials decided to call the event shortly after colors passed the reviewing party.

If there is any way of making some of the most powerful men in the military look like a bunch of first-graders getting ready for a class portrait…I think I may have accidentally done it. Chief of Staff of the Army  General George W. Casey, Chief of Staff of the Air Force  General Norton Schwartz, Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Robert Papp, Jr., and Chief of the Navy Reserve Admiral Dirk Debbink during the 10th Annual Military Times Service Member of the Year awards at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. It is either a really good thing or a really bad thing that I didn’t get Marine Corps Director of the Reserve Affairs Division Major General Darrell Moore in the photo.
