Meet Lt. Gen. David E. Grange, Jr., the man whose name graces the official title of the event: The David E. Grange, Jr. Best Ranger Competition. From the event’s Web site, “The Best Ranger Competition was started in 1982 after Dick Leandri found a way to honor his personal friend, Lt. Gen. David E. Grange, Jr.” The general, a very fit-looking 83-year-old, said he is “humbled” by the event’s success. ” “I’m really amazed. I’m so humbled. But I’m very proud of it, too.”
