Three awards were given out Sunday at the ceremony after the competition: the “bronze boot,” which is officially called the Capt. Russell B. Rippetoe Trophy and is given to the team that makes the best time during the road march, an eight-hour trek that lasted throughout the first night; the Richard A. Leandri Award, which is given to the best orienteering team; and the Best Ranger trophy. The first-place winners, Staff Sgts. Michael Broussard and Shayne Cherry, won both the bronze boot and the Best Ranger trophy, while the second-place winners, brothers Capt. Jeff Soule and Maj. Greg Soule, won the crystal. (The first-place winners also will be presented with a pair of Colt .45 pistols on Monday.)
