“Fighting for Life”
Posted by Phil Ewing on May 17th, 2008 filed in Uncategorized“Fighting For Life” is a very professionally made documentary of the military’s medics in and out of the war zone. It takes viewers through military medical school at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, “The West Point of Medicine,” with some close-up shots of first-years dissecting cadavers and hitting the books.
All aspects of warzone medicine are touched on, from aeromedical evacuation to amputation to recuperation at Walter Reed. Director Terry Sanders deserves a lot of credit for giving the film broad scope by featuring all involved parties – nurses, doctors, professors, patients, family, even the USU librarian – without sacrificing depth.
This film is excellent, and should be required viewing for anyone lucky enough to have gone to war and come back without injury. It ain’t for the squeamish, though.
