Michelle Tan joined Army Times as a staff writer in 2005. She covers recruiting, deployment, crime, Guard and Reserve, housing and other Army issues. She has embedded with military units in Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa. She previously worked as a reporter for the St. Cloud Times in Minnesota. Tan graduated from St. Cloud State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 2000.
M. Scott Mahaskey joined Army Times in 2003. He is a senior photographer who has accumulated more than 12 months of deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. His work has appeared in publications throughout the Gannett family network, including the company’s flagship newspaper, USA Today, in addition to other major news organizations. Mahaskey has received numerous awards for his photojournalism work and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Studio from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
