This is from when Scutro and I were with Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division in March last year. They were in Tikrit and let us ride along with them as their CO, Lt. Col. Rick Rhyne, made it a point to be out and about in as much of that city as possible every day of the week.
The kids in Iraq – they blow my mind. They have become so used to these hulking, armored-up Americans…they’re not afraid, and they even adopt the posture and swagger of the Soldiers they see. I wonder what kind of mark we are leaving on these children.
