Canadian reporter Dan Lett, of the Winnipeg Free Press, is along for the ride as the sailors aboard the Canadian Navy frigate Winnipeg patrol for pirates off Somalia. He’s got some interesting insights not only about the challenge of keeping the peace in the Gulf of Aden, but also about how business is done in the Canadian navy. And although all the SH-3 Sea Kings are gone from the U.S. fleet, rotorheads of a certain vintage will appreciate Lett’s love for them:
“In the air, … the Sea King has an elegance that is undeniable. It carves the air and swoops down to just above the level of the sea with remarkable agility. It is a stunning contrast in styles, not unlike the surprise you would experience when witnessing an overweight prizefighter with nimble footwork.”
