MU3 Jay Gillespie plays his saxophone on the New Orleans waterfront in 2008 as the frigate Samuel B. Roberts -- due in Boston Thursday -- prepares to tie up.
Looking at Web sites goes great with chow in the afternoon:
- Apparently Australian submarine cooks make more money than some Australian admirals.
- If you want to show American sailors in Dubai a good time, apparently the secret is to play “Sweet Home Alabama.”
- Russia says it plans to build six aircraft carriers starting in 2012, although if you have a navy and you’re thinking about buying some too, ask the Indian Navy how it feels about the service.
- The frigate Samuel B. Roberts is scheduled to arrive in Boston today to help celebrate Bunker Hill Day — which, unfortunately, we do not get off from work here in the National Capital Region. The ship’s crew will be providing an honor guard at Fenway Park while the Yankees are in town, making it potentially the second-most dangerous mission that Sammy B. has ever undertaken, after this one.
