Two Navy movies (sort of) on the horizon

Will "Battleship: The Movie" involve real battleships, such as the Wisconsin, seen here at dusk in Norfolk, Va.? Only time will tell // Navy
Here’s an interesting — and puzzling — item for the show-business file: Variety reports that director Peter Berg has taken on “Battleship: The Movie,” a major motion picture that will be spun somehow out of the children’s coordinates-finding board game. Now, Scoop Deck loves Navy movies, and has many fond memories of playing “Battleship” and, later, “Talking Battleship.” (In fact we donated a copy of it last year for the Christmas-present drive here at the Center of Excellence, in a Navy Times in-joke that its 8 year-old recipient probably didn’t get.)
But add us to the many online skeptics wondering how this deeply cerebral material — which gave us such immortal exchanges as, “B-4.” “Miss.” “C-6.” “Miss” — will work up there on the big screen.
Robert Farley at Information Dissemination, whence came this story, has an excellent rundown about the many mind-boggling elements involved with a “Battleship” movie. And there was one other thing: Apparently Berg’s “Battleship” deal with Universal includes another project, a movie version of “Lone Survivor,” the best-selling book by former SEAL Marcus Luttrell.
It was only a matter of time before Hollywood turned Luttrell’s harrowing story — being the only member of his SEAL team left alive in Afghanistan after a firefight with the Taliban — into an action-blockbuster. The only question is, who will play him and his teammates?
Suggestions?
