Crews battle fire in remote area of Fort Dix

FORT DIX, N.J. — Firefighters continue to battle a fire in a wooded area on the Fort Dix military reservation.
Environmental Protection spokeswoman Darlene Yuhas said about 300 acres in a remote area of the base, near the Ocean-Burlington county line, are involved.
Yuhas said the state is monitoring the fire and will provide assistance if it moves off the military property. There’s no indication that will happen now.
Yuhas said the fire has not increased in size since it started Thursday and is not posing a public threat.
