Colo. group discusses help for combat stress

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Colorado Springs nonprofit is participating in a discussion with a congressional committee on ways to help soldiers and their families deal with combat stress.
Representatives of the Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group and others will attend a meeting with the House Committee on Veterans Affairs in Washington on Wednesday.
The Pikes Peak group plans to discuss its "Peer Navigator Program," which uses veterans and veterans' families to help others sort out services and deal with issues that confront soldiers returning home from war.
The group says veterans who get help with mental health, job training and substance abuse cost society far less than veterans who don't get help and wind up unemployed and sometimes in jail.
