BISMARCK, N.D. — The first female general in the North Dakota Army National Guard has taken command of NATO forces operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Giselle "Gigi" Wilz, of Bismarck, was promoted from colonel to brigadier general last month, shortly before leaving for a one-year tour of duty overseas.
The Guard says Wilz assumed command of NATO headquarters in Sarajevo on Tuesday.
She previously has served overseas in the Middle East, Kosovo and Africa.
