EL PASO, Texas — A Veterans Affairs clinic in West Texas where a gunman fatally shot a doctor and then committed suicide will reopen Friday afternoon.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Bob McDonald on Thursday visited the El Paso Veterans Affairs Health Care System clinic.

McDonald assured staffers and patients that they'll receive additional support as a result of Tuesday's gunfire. Mental health services and counseling will be provided.
Authorities say a former VA clerk, Jerry Serrato, used a handgun to shoot psychologist Timothy Fjordbak (FYOHR'-bahk), then himself. A motive remains unclear although the doctor in 2013 reported Serrato made an unspecified verbal threat against him at a supermarket.
Peter Dancy, who's acting director of the El Paso VA Health Care System, says increased security at the clinic will include more thorough identification checks.
