Man admits producing fake military ID cards

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A western New York man has pleaded guilty to producing and possessing counterfeit military identification cards.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 54-year-old Mark Kelly of Rochester also admitted Thursday to lying to federal investigators.

Prosecutors say Kelly claimed to be a U.S. Navy officer and regularly wore uniforms to work and around town, allowing him to get a military discount on his rent and other financial benefits.

A tip from a suspicious landlord eventually led to his arrest.

Navy investigators say Kelly was in the Navy for 2 ½ years but was discharged in 1981 for misconduct.

He faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in May.
