November is more than just the month we kick off the holiday season. It’s an invitation to celebrate our veterans and an opportunity to practice gratitude for the blessings in our lives. It’s also a chance to win 1 million IHG® One Rewards points. For more details, read below.

Veterans are a select group of people, making up less than 10% of the U.S. population. Military service is a rewarding, but challenging, career path that most Americans choose not to take. When many people leave the armed forces and become veterans, they face numerous challenges. One of the most common challenges is finding employment as a member of the civilian workforce.

At IHG® Army Hotels, we’re honored to help veterans transition to new careers in their civilian lives. Veterans understand better than anyone else what it means to serve, and because of that, they are able to connect with our guests on a more personal level. Whether military families are traveling for PCS or leisure, they’re in great hands thanks to our colleagues who have served. They’re a major reason why we continue to score so high in customer satisfaction surveys year after year. Veterans looking to join our team are encouraged to apply by visiting https://careers.ihg.com/en/veterans/.

We’re also dedicated to supporting and developing the next generation of colleagues through our Teen Academy. IHG Army Hotels offers this paid summer internship to the dependents of our hotel team members and the dependents of military personnel living on post.

Teen Academy is a great opportunity to develop kids into future leaders even if they don’t necessarily have the means or desire to go to college right away. The program also provides additional help for the hotels during the busy summer travel months so we can keep providing the 5-star hospitality we’re known for.

This summer, 86 teens took part in the internship, which was held in 16 hotels across the country. For eight weeks, participants in Teen Academy work in several jobs, including housekeeper, laundry assistant, and breakfast attendant. In addition to gaining valuable work experience, the teens learn about different aspects of the hospitality industry from on-the-job training.

Teen Academy also includes at least one community service project, so the interns learn the importance of giving back. Past project beneficiaries have included the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which helps provide mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children.

We’re always looking for ways to give back to our military communities, and every September, we kick our volunteer efforts into high gear for IHG’s Giving for Good Month. This year’s volunteer projects included handing out water at the Annual Run/Walk for the Fallen on Fort Leavenworth, collecting pet food for animal shelters on Fort Gregg Adams, and supporting Covenant House Georgia, a shelter that provides unconditional love and comprehensive support for young people experiencing homelessness or trafficking.

In the spirit of November, we’re also celebrating veterans and showing our gratitude with our biggest sweepstakes of the year. We’re giving away 1 million IHG One Rewards points in a random drawing on Veterans Day. You could be 1 of 10 winners each receiving 100,000 points— enough for up to a 5-night stay in many off-post IHG Hotels and Resorts worldwide. Don’t miss your chance! Thank you to our veterans for your service in the military and in civilian life. We’re honored to call you colleagues, guests, and family members this month and every month.
