The House has already left town, but the Senate still has a few hearings before its members start their summer vacation.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold another series of hearings on the controversial Iran nuclear deal this week in an effort to set the groundwork for congressional debate and votes when the chamber returns to work in September.

And while lawmakers head back home, staffers on the Senate Armed Services Committee will work behind the scenes to break the stalemate on the annual defense authorization bill. Officials from both chambers are still hopeful that measure can be fully approved before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.
