FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A report to Congress shows the Air Force still plans to shut down a unit that flies transport planes based at Fort Bragg.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that a report on C-130 cargo planes ordered by Congress shows the Air Force still plans to eliminate the 440th Airlift Wing.
Congress has 60 days to possibly take action before the Air Force can move ahead with its plans.
The Air Force says it can save $116 million by eliminating the unit based at Fort Bragg.
U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers of North Carolina says she is still trying to keep the planes based at Fort Bragg. The airlift wing is the only unit based at Fort Bragg's Pope Field.
North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis is also lobbying to save the unit
