Army Capt. Humayun Khan was killed by suicide bomber in 2004 in Iraq. Former Military Times photographer Scott Mahaskey, now with Politico, was in Diyala Province when members of Khan's 1st Infantry Division unit held a memorial. Twelve years later, Mahaskey visited Khan's gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery. In the week prior, Khan's death was placed at the center of a national controversy after his father, Khizr Khan, got into a heated back and forth with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by harshly criticizing him from the stage of the Democratic National Convention. Here is a look at Mahaskey's photos, from where Capt. Khan was killed to where he was laid to rest.
