Military service member assigned to border mission found dead, foul play not suspected

NOGALES, Ariz. — Authorities say a military service member assigned to the Southwest Border Support Mission has died in southern Arizona.

Officials at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, said in a statement that the military service member was found dead Saturday near Nogales.

Marine says he fired weapon on Mexican border after being attacked

NORTHCOM said the Marine was at a mobile surveillance camera site near El Centro, California, in the pre-dawn hours of May 29 when the incident took place. There were no reported injuries.

They say the incident is under investigation, but foul play isn't suspected.

The name and age of the military service member who died hasn't been released.
