Today, they make good on their promise by announcing a $1500 price drop from the Mark 8 1.1-8x24mm CQBSSM5B1's initial introductory MSRP of $4500.

"We've worked with the production and assembly teams to increase efficiencies allowing us to reduce the cost of the CQBSS," said Kevin Trepa, Leupold's vice president of global sales. "While this optic was designed for the American warfighter in theater, it's an outstanding choice for competition and home defense rifles as well."

Home defense? With an 8x? Well, maybe... If you're pitching the idea of spending $3k worth of the kid's college fund on a 3-gun/hunting optic, I guess I can see the home defense angle going a little better with the spouse. Or maybe you have a really big house.

Press release after the break.

BEAVERTON, Ore. —Leupold® Tactical Optics is lowering the cost of the cutting-edge Mark 8 1.1-8x24mm CQBSSM5B1 Front Focal.

With models now starting at $2,999 MSRP, Leupold's versatile Mark 8 CQBSS riflescope offers the speed of a holographic red dot sight and the capability of an 8-power precision riflescope in one rugged, field-proven unit. The 34mm maintube features a fully checkered ocular bell for making quick magnification adjustments even while wearing gloves.

The front focal plane reticle is accurate at all magnification settings and is combined with a 5-MOA holographic red dot for the ultimate blend of precision and rapid acquisition. Eight illumination settings allow for optimum dot contrast with or without night vision. An off position between each intensity setting makes returning to the preferred setting nearly immediate.

In addition, the Mark 8 CQBSS has Auto-Locking Pinch and Turn dials with 0.10 mil clicks that are extremely easy to adjust, yet eliminate accidental adjustment in the field. Leupold's Index Matched Lens System® with DiamondCoat 2 provides increased light transmission and scratch resistance that exceeds mil-specs.

Mark 8 riflescopes have a matte black finish and are filled with an Argon/Krypton gas blend, making them second-generation waterproof, fog proof and shock proof. Measuring 11.75 inches long and weighing just 23.2 ounces, the Mark 8 CQBSS packs a lot of power in a compact unit. Flip-open lens covers and a 2.5" sun shade are standard issue.

Supported by a team of dedicated engineers, the Leupold Tactical Optics staff works with American warfighters, law enforcement personnel and competitive shooters to design and build products that meet their needs. Currently, more long-range Leupold Tactical Optics are in service with the U.S. military than any other brand.

Leupold & Stevens, Inc., the preeminent American-owned optics company, employs hundreds of people in its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility near Beaverton, Ore. Family owned and operated, Leupold offers products that are sold worldwide to hunters, competitive shooters, American military warfighters, law enforcement personnel and wildlife observers. The product line includes rifle, handgun and spotting scopes; binoculars; rangefinders; trail cameras; mounting systems; and optical tools and accessories.
