There seems to be a geyser that spouts gun-cleaning fluids as fast as the promises each makes. I make no claims regarding this new carbon-dissolving gun lube called FireClean except to say that it looks like it does break down carbon on contact using just a paper towel and some elbow grease. The guys from FireClean put the dirtiest M4 I've ever seen in front of me and squirted a few drops into the upper and with a little --very little-- rubbing, I could feel the bare metal beneath the thick carbon residue and see the results on the paper towel.
FireClean is nontoxic, and it's used as a cleaner, lubricant and conditioner. The pitch sound makes it sound a bit like Froglube, but it's not the same stuff. At least it doesn't look the same.
I shoot my guns suppressed, so the Queen of Carbon and I are on a first-name basis. I seem to spend an hour scrubbing out just an upper. So, if this stuff can cut that time in half, then I'll be adding it to my cleaning caddy. I've got a date with Her Majesty this weekend, so I'll pull out the FireClean and let you know how it works. It's sold in 2-ounce bottles for $15. Used only a few drops at a time, 2 ounces is enough to clean 30,000 rounds of 5.56, the guys from FireClean tell me.
