I met Army Lt. Col. Mike Ludwig in February at the Holiday Lake 50K++ in southwestern Virginia. We bonded over our mutual fondness for whining about mud, races and muddy races. Well, I was whining, he was probably trying to run away.

Mike is a Nurse Corps officer currently earning a second master's degree at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C., before he starts work in the Army's Surgeon General Office as a health informatics officer. The relentlessly energetic (almost) 41-year-old has already finished five -- FIVE -- ultramarathons this year.

He was a good sport and met up with us this week to demo an upcoming Military Muscle workout. He'll be on newsstands March 19.
