We're late to the party on this one, but wanted to share it anyway.

A little over a week ago a group of wounded service members finished a two-month, cross-country bike ride as part of World T.E.A.M. Sports' Sea to Shining Sea event. The team set out from San Francisco in May and rode almost 4,000 miles to Virginia Beach, Va., ending on July 28.

"The ride provided a dramatic example that disabled Americans can lead productive lives and accomplish remarkable athletic feats," organizers said on the event website.

The organization's mission, according to the event website:

For more than 20 years, we have used athletics to challenge disabled men, women and children to accomplish goals they never thought possible. In all our events – whether mountain climbing, biking, white water rafting or many other sports – we include both disabled and able-bodied participants.

The Sea to Shining Sea website breaks down the ride by the numbers:

  • 3,698 miles.
  • 18,765 feet of elevation gain.
  • 14 states.
  • 1 Penske truck.
  • 4 GM fleet vehicles.
  • 1 USO RV.
  • 1,520 Energizer batteries.
  • 16 exceptional athletes
