'American Sniper' received a highly coveted nomination spot in the Oscars best motion picture category Thursday.
The biographical drama based on Navy SEAL Chris Kyle's memoir received six nominations altogether, including one for Bradley Cooper for best actor in a leading role.
"Despite what maybe people have said about him, if you watch what I've watched — very humble guy," Cooper told Navy Times earlier this month.
"I never felt like I was playing anybody other than someone I admired," Cooper said.
The film was also nominated in the adapted screenplay, film editing, sound editing and sound mixing categories.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, the movie hits theaters this weekend.
The 87th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will be Feb. 22.
