The Navy on Tuesday charged two former commanding officers of the destroyers Fitzgerald and John S. McCain with negligent homicide for their role in the deadly at-sea collisions last summer.
Cmdr. Bryce Benson of the Fitzgerald and Cmdr. Alfredo J. Sanchez of the John S. McCain both face charges of negligent homicide, dereliction of duty and hazarding a vessel.
If court-martialed and convicted, the officers could spend years in the brig.
Is this an important step to ensure accountability of Navy commanders?
Or did the top brass go too far in this case?
What do you think?
