The MilitaryChildCare.com portal has been out of operation for more than a day, with a notice citing a "temporary service interruption."

Further information was unavailable from defense officials about the problem or when the site would be restored.

The Navy is the executive agent for MilitaryChildCare.com for all the services. A notice on the website for Commander, Navy Installations Command stated that its public website is unavailable, and that officials anticipate having the site back online "in the near future." Information was not immediately available about whether the issues were related.

DoD launched the site earlier this year to provide a central portal for parents to get information about and arrange for military child care at their next duty station, their current one or a potential future duty station. Parents can monitor the status of their request for child care while they wait for notification of an available space.

The initial launch included 13 installations beyond five pilot locations.

Officials plan to add more installations to the portal, with everyone expected to be on board by September, 2016.

The notice on the site states, "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause while the issue is being resolved." The notice also provides a phone number, but that number takes messages.

It's not known how long the site has been down, but Military Times discovered it at 1 p.m. Monday.
