Looking back five years ago to the LA National Guard during Hurricane Katrina:
USA Today: (August 31, 2005) The Pentagon ordered 10,000 additional National Guard troops to the region and began one of the biggest search-and-rescue operations in U.S. history. About 7,200 active-duty troops are already at work on the Gulf Coast along with 11,000 Guardsmen from affected states.
