Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) has a new AR15/M16/M4 cam pin that's out on the market. For anyone who has ever fired a newly issued weapon or had a chance to observe the wear on the M16 cam pin, it is substantial and it's an obvious lube point. We spoke to Frank Desoma, who let us know that this has been designed to reduce friction and drag on the bolt carrier as the cam pin is able to spin while the action moves. The piece is NP3 coated, which negates the need for lubricant.
The conversion is available in two styles. The first is part # RCPK223and is designed for the direct impingement/gas system, and it comes with a gas carrier key, two screws and the roller cam pin -- this is because the carrier key needs to be loosened or removed so the new cam pin can be dropped in. You will notice from the picture below that it has a rounded head instead of the traditional rectangular cam pin that we are used to in service weapons. For weapons that are using a piston system, you can purchase part # RCPA223, which is the just the roller cam itself.
